History 5, Lesson 20

Please summarize all the inventions you learned this week and how they impacted history. This week in history we learned about some cool stuff like portland cement, Electromagnets, passenger rail, and the match.

Joseph Aspdin, was born in England in 1778. He experimented with many cements. He patented his portland cement in 1824. He built a factory to produce it in 1825. Portland cement is the most commonly used in the world. Portland cement has revolutionised the building industry. It has helped build Hoover dam, the CN tower in Canada, and “Christ the redeemer” in Brazil.

Hans Christian Oersted was born in Denmark in 1777. He became a professor in 1806. In one of his lectures he noticed that a compass moved with a light switch. So then he started working with it but he gave up. The first Electromagnet was made in 1824 by William Sturgeon. Electromagnets play an important role but a hidden role. Electromagnets make speakers possible. The electromagnets cause the speaker diaphragm to vibrate.

George Stephenson was born in Britain in 1781. He experienced a family tragedy. His daughter died 3 weeks old and soon after his wife, then his father went blyed in a coal mine accident. So he had to return home with his son and he became a steam engine export. Stephenson built the first locomotive in 1814. The first passenger car ran in 1825. Passenger trains brought a new kind of mobility. It helped America overtake Great Britain in the industrial Revolution.

John Walker was born in 1781. He invented the match in 1826 almost by accident. He sold a box of matches for 1 shilling. Matches let you start fires anywhere. They make starting fires easy. John Pusey invented the match book in 1890. Diamond Match company is the biggest match producer in America. It made smoking more popular. They also made building campfires easy.

That is all the cool inventions I learned this week. They were pretty awesome. Could you imagine a world without portland cement, electromagnets, the passenger rail, and matches. Personally my favorite was matches, could you imagine going camping without matches.

A Story Of My Life

Today I will be writing a little story about my life.

Well when I was really little I got sick a whole lot. My mother could almost predict when I was going to be sick. It turned out that my kidney had a knot in it. My kidney was twice the size of an adult’s kidney. We went to a bunch of doctors and they said there was nothing wrong. But once we went to a hospital in Vanderbilt the doctor took an x-ray and knew what was wrong. And he fixed me right up.

After that I was good as new. After I got into firefighters and was obsessed with them. But then I got into tools and I liked pretending I was a builder. I went through that phase and got into cowboys and then armys. I stayed obsessed with armys for a really long time. But then armys went away and I really like nerf guns. Then I got into fishing and that is where I have remained.

Now I am addicted to fishing. I also game quite a bit. My favorite games are Fortnite, minecraft, halo, and call of duty 3. I also like wood burning. I like camping. Because I like camping I joined the trail of life.

Well now you know some about my life. Now you see what my life was like but now it is pretty different I fish a lot and I live on a farm.

My Vacation

Today I will be talking about my vacation. Where I went on my vacation, what I did on my vacation, and what I would like to do next time.

I went to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Myrtle beach. It was about an 8 hour drive. We left at one o’clock in the morning so then we would sleep most of the way. On the way there we saw some wetlands, sandbanks, a school bus graveyard, and palm trees. We only stopped at a gas station once.

I went fishing in my kayak and caught two fish, one was a four pounder, I eventually got kicked out because it turned out you couldn’t have a kayak in the pond. I went to a water park that they had, I floated around in the lazy river, I also went down there two awesome water slides. I went to the beach and boogie boarded, dug down to water, and built a cool sand castle. I also went on a golf cart ride almost every night. I also played chess with my dad.

Next time I would like to go to Florida. I would like to camp by a big lake or river. I would also go saltwater fishing. I would also like to see some crocodiles. I would really like to go on a guided bass fishing trip with my dad. It would be fun to also go kayaking.

Well that is what I went, did, and what I would like to do next time.

History 4, Lesson 180

In this week in history I learned about some really cool stuff like the morphine, jacquard loom, inventions and worldview, inventions and patterns.

Friendrick Serturner invented morphine from opium in 1804 after spending years of learning and practicing chemistry. Morphine is the most potent painkiller. Morphine comes from purifying opium. Companies were producing the drug regularly by the 1820s. Morphine is very addictive, and replaced opium in the civil war.

The rich nobilitys has always preferred to wear fancy clothes with intricate woven designs.   They used cams to make the pipes sing. Bouchon applied the cam patterns to the loom in 1725. Vaucanson improved the design by adding a cylinder. Jacquard loom automatically produces complex woven patterns. Programmable cards create the thread patterns. The loom reduced labor costs and made expensive clothes cheaper.

Most cultures have always believed in a cyclical view of time and history except those based on the bible. Inventions have helped so many cultures. The world view has 5 parts: God, man, ethics, judgment, and time. Inventions have made huge impacts on the world and made so many more things possible. Inventions have also made things more efficient and life easier.

A lot of inventions were made after the inventor noticed something that seemed odd. John Napier developed a critical mental image. Vesalius taught human anatomy differently than all other professors. Dr.Mary Schweitzer discovered blood vessels in fossilized dinosaur bones, all the other scientists simply assumed that was impossible. The worldview prevented them from making this major discovery, sne discovered what others said couldn’t be possible.

That is what I learned in my last week of history. It was really cool.

what I did this weekend I did a lot of cool and hard stuff this weekend. This is what it was, I played Fortnite, Watched TV, ate food from Hardee’s, swam in our uncle Eric and aunt Lauren’s pool, and helped my dad and uncle Eric split wood. Now let me go into some detail about what I did. Oh, I was also there with my brother and sister. When I woke up I played Fortnite and got two duo wins on Sunday, I have twenty Squad wins, three Solo wins, and five Duo wins. How Duos works is you get put into teams of two and there are one hundred other players (and the one hundred players are split into teams of two as well), you have to kill all the other players and be the last team standing. Fortnite Duos is one of my least favorite game modes but I was playing it because I got bored of squads. I also watched TV and we watched funny Tik Toks and try not to laugh challenges on Youtube in my Aunt Lauren and uncle Eric’s pool house. Of course we laughed at a lot of the videos. I ate a Bacon, Egg, and Cheese biscuit from Hardee’s that our aunt Lauren picked up and it was delicious. I swam in my uncle Eric and aunt Lauren´s pool for a little bit but not for very long because it was cold and everyone else got out so I got bored and got out as well. My uncle Eric put in a pool a couple of years back and when we go down we like to swim . I also helped my dad and uncle Eric split wood and stack wood on Saturday which we are going to burn in our wood stove this winter(because when the wood stove starts heating up the house starts warming up so that’s what keeps us warm during the winter) , we only got a trailer full but it took forever. After we got a lot of wood split we had pizza delivered. We did all this in our sleep over at aunt Lauren and uncle Eric’s pool house. Tell me what you do on your weekend and what type of work you have to do sometimes on your weekends. I help take care of our animals, stack wood, watch my siblings and what I like to do on my weekends are go fishing and game, I have five other siblings. That is what I did this weekend and what I normally do on my weekends.

Reading 5, Lesson 145

Well I like a lot of buildings in our city, but my favorite one is the walmart. Now I am going to go into some detail why I like it.

I like the Walmart because I can get food there. I really like getting their chicken tenders as a snack while we shop . I like chicken tenders because I really like fried chicken and I don’t get them that often. It reminds me of how much better our chicken is then there’s.I also like buying fishing gear there. I really like fishing and so I really like buying new lures to try out to catch more and bigger fish. I buy top water frogs, it’s basically a soft plastic frog that sits on the top of the water and you twitch it to make it look like it’s swimming and bass love coming up and attaching them. I also like buying soft plastic curly tail grubs, to the fish it looks like a minnow or an insect larva. I also like buying jig heads and that’s the hook you use for the grubs. I also like getting lego sets from walmart. I have got many lego minecraft sets, call of duty sets and my brother has even bought some halo action figures. I also like it because it is close to taco bell and if we are really good while we shop we sometimes will get slushy if it’s happy hour, happy hour is when all the slushy are all cheaper.

What is the best advice I have ever received

Well I have had a lot of advice but the best advice I have ever had is probably never give up. I was told never to give up by a lot of people but the one that I remember best is my dad. It was at a fishing tournament I wasn’t catching anything but everyone else was so I started to give up and my daddy said don’t stop trying.

I find that very helpful and really good advice because there have been so many times I’ve wanted to give up. I used to play baseball and I couldn’t hit a single ball and I wanted to quit and my mom and dad said keep working at it and don’t give up. I think any time you want to give up just say to yourself I won’t give up ,  when I want to give up that’s what I tell myself. One time I went fishing and wasn’t catching anything but I kept telling myself don’t give up.

Well that’s the best advice I have ever received and I hope it helps you. Share some good advice you have received.
